Painting The Spare Bedroom

Tagged Under :

I’m finally painting the spare bedroom!

From Blue to Orange

After living in this house for 10 years… I don’t know why I avoided that room for so long. Now, after the first coat of paint, I feel like that room is mine. I’ve claimed it. I need to stake a flag in it!

Here are some pictures mid-stream of the paint job. I don’t like the blue. I like blue as a color, but for some reason I don’t like it on the walls. I dunno, just weird of me I guess. And I know this sunset orange is a bit dark, but I like dark! And I like color!

Above is the final product! Yay! I am so excited! I get to go buy a real bed frame for that room too. I don’t know if I’ll buy a mattress… my husband said I should. Good thing we are refinancing. LOL. But we have a mattress that we could use so I’m really not sure.

After all this work I’m going to need some good anti wrinkle face cream to smooth out my skin. I’m all dry and icky and painted… yeah I get almost as much on myself. No pictures of orange me though! :)

Time To Paint the Spare Bedroom

Tagged Under :

Yup, it’s time. I’ll try to get some pictures going… the spare bedroom is the only room upstairs in our house that I have not yet painted. In all the 10 years we’ve lived here. I have been putting it off and it’s finally time to get it done!

But the prerequisite to painting is cleaning up… and I have moved out my wardrobes and put them in my own bedroom. And then I went through most of the junk (I haven’t dared open the closet yet lol) and emptied out 3 bins worth of junk. Some is going to the DI, some is recycled, and some is just plain thrown out.

Next weekend I hope to be able to start to prep the room. There’s the layer of wallpaper that I’m kinda scraping off. If it comes, I’ll take it. If not, it will be painted over again. Yuck. I really don’t want to paint over it again but at the same time I really don’t want to take it off! I actually think only one wall as the wallpaper on it and it’s coming off on it’s own for the most part. Thank goodness.

It’s a job. I think I’m feeling better because I actually have the motivation to do this stuff! I’ll post again about why I think I feel better. :)

Four Month Mortgage Payoff Plan

Tagged Under :

Yup.. I have a plan. I’m tired of the mortgage. Our money situation is way too dang tight now that my husband is not working and he’s going to school. And paying off the mortgage will be a huge help and let us breathe a bit easier in the financial arena of life.

So I’m upping our mortgage payment to $1,500 a month. I’m actually going to pay it every other week at $750, after I get paid. That way I’ll get a burst of positive reinforcement every other week instead of just once a month!

At this rate we should have it paid down enough by April 2010 that we can drain our savings and pay the whole thing off. And then we’ll have to replenish our savings but that shouldn’t take too long.

So April is the goal. It may go as long as May, maybe June… but I’m going to focus on April and hope we get that darn thing paid! Yay for a fully owned house!

Ten Years At My House

Tagged Under :

PB119248Wow how time flies. It’s been 10 years this month since I bought my house. I lived in it for a year or so before Aaron joined me. Then we got married in 2003 and put the house in both our names.

I like our little house. It’s brick, so if there is an earthquake it’ll crumble and crush us. Hopefully there won’t be any earthquakes. It’s not quite breckenridge lodging but it’s our home and we love it. I just wish all the rooms were twice as big, and we had a 2 car garage instead of just a 1 car garage.

It’s cozy and we have fun in our little house.  We only owe about $13,000 left on it. Once that is paid off we’ll be mortgage free! We are very excited about that!

10 years in one place… wow. Kinda neat, makes me think my life is actually stable finally.

On The Upswing

Yeah.. I’m better.  I’m actually better enough that I did some yard work this weekend! I was sick, if you were wondering… not the flu. Thank Goodness. But I had a bad bad cold. And my immune system is just so weak that I have a hard time getting rid of any type of cold, or just feeling bad.

I am planning on digging up one more rose bush out in the front yard… and all the ground cover which is, actually, mostly just grass that’s grown in the flower beds out front.  I’m going to dig it all up, hopefully on Wednesday, and then lay some of that black ground paper and put something over it. I want the pink gravel. My husband doesn’t. Hrm… I wonder how long it’d take him to notice if I just did the gravel?  :)

I’m also cleaning up my MacBook… yes, it’s already full of junk. LOL. Maybe a Personalized usb drive is what I need to help with that. Not sure.

Anyway, I’m really enjoying my cave time at home. I need home time, alone time, being by myself with my husband and our dogs. I can relax for a few months before the dog sports all start up again!

Three Weeks of Candida Treatment and Diet

Tagged Under : ,

Okay so it’s been about three weeks… well, three and a half weeks. I go back to the doctor next Tuesday for a checkup to see how I’ve been doing.

Well, I think I’m dong pretty good. I’m doing well enough to have cleaned the house today. I cleaned the bathroom, the spare bedroom, and the front room. Mopped and dusted too. And I scrubbed the bathroom with a toothbrush so it’s cleaner than it has been in along time.

Dang how does dirt get everywhere? Nooks and crannies and even on the walls and ceiling! Ugh! Well, for now the house is getting clean. I just don’t like cleaning on a regular basis. Ugh. I’d rather have someone else do it, maybe the Wilmington NC real estate company will clean for me!

So anyway back to the Candida… At the beginning of last week I felt rotten again, and I don’t know if it was doing Obedience with my dogs Saturday and Sunday, or if I ate too much of the cheese and coconut milk ice cream I had bought. Maybe that ice cream had too much sugar or something. Either way, by Thursday I felt better. And today I feel better too.

I do seem to need a nap in the middle of the day for an hour or two. It makes me feel much better. Unfortunately I can’t really do that at work. So I’m dragging by the end of the work days. But I think, all in all, I’m on my way back to health. Yay!

Peas in the Backyard And Major Sugar Cravings

Tagged Under : , ,

So we have peas in the backyard! Only a couple have been ripe though, so far. They need a few more days to ripen so we can start eating them. The ones I ate today were amazingly good. I love backyard veggies they are so much better than store bought veggies.

peas

I got this fun picture of them too, I love taking closeup pictures. :)

And now for an update of my Candida diet. Well, I’m so way more addicted to sugar than I had realized. Every afternoon I have the most intense sugar cravings! I’m supposed to not eat sugar or even fruit. And I’ve been sticking with it… except I cheated once yesterday and had a caramel, pecan, almond paste thing that my husband didn’t like.. which probably put me back a couple of days from getting over these darn sugar cravings.

But I’m sticking with it, and taking my meds, and hoping the yeasties all go away so that I can feel better. And even without using top rated diet pills, I’ve lost a couple of pounds on this Candida diet, so that’s a good thing too!

Buy Land Or Dwelling?

Tagged Under : ,

Well, I want to move to Central Utah. I went and looked at buying land last week, Friday, and it was so much fun! I love looking to buy land and houses and property.

It seems, however, that buying land might be a bigger pain that it’s worth. And my biggest concern is that after we buy the land and dig the well and put in the septic tank and build the house, the amount we paid for the whole kit and kaboodle will be more than the finished product is worth.

So if the land costs $73,000, we would still need to dig a well and put in a water pump. That costs about $20,000. Ouch! And I don’t know how much it would cost to put in a septic tank, or a propane tank either. But all of those are needed because this is a very rural area.

The 5 acre lots we looked at were pretty nice, though.  Up against a hill and I could easily open the back door and let the dogs run out!  However, the money… dangit, I wish Money wasn’t an issue. But it is.

So we are considering an already built home on a farm, though I’m not going to tell you what it is exactly, because it’s not really up for sale yet. I’m waiting on news from the realtor. But it’s about 7 acres and we drove by and it looked so neat!  Maybe my husband’s next job is farmer…. but not just any farmer, a certain type that’d be fun!

I’ll update as I know what happens. :)

Coexisting with House Mice

House Mouse

House Mouse

I like mice.. really. I think they are cute. I do wish I could have some rat companions someday but right now I don’t have time for them, plus my dogs and cats would probably think they were part of their raw diet.

Our house has mice. We try to not have food accessible to them, all our dried beans and stuff are now in bins they can’t get into. But sometimes I leave mostly empty bags of chips (I know I’m not supposed to eat chips!) on the upper shelf in the basement and they get the crumbs. Or they carry off ice cream sticks (my husband saw one carrying one off a bit ago) into the nooks and crannies of our house.  Our cat, Phoebe, stares at the walls a lot. And once we heard some scurrying in the ceiling in the basement, and something fell.. it was a half eaten almond. I’d bought some nuts in the shells and apparently the mouse dropped it while fleeing. Our cats are not, apparently, very good mousers!

We have a ton of nooks and crannies.  Our entire basement has holes into the walls. We need to finish it up but it’s one of the zillion things we need to do with our house and it’s not going to happen anytime soon.

I don’t really mind living with mice. However, I don’t like that they might carry disease. And I don’t want them eating all of our food. But I’m not willing to put down horrible mouse traps. We have a live trap but so far no little mousy has wandered into it. Oh well, not sure what we’d do with the little guys anyway.

So mice, please go away.. even though it’s cold outside.

Oh No Don’t Paint Wallpaper!

Spare Bedroom

Spare Bedroom

Yuckola.  There’s a technical word for you, eh?  Super Yuckola has got to be even better.

Slowly, bit by bit, I’m working on painting my spare bedroom.  After being in this house almost 9 years I figure it’s time. And now I know why I’ve been putting it off for so long.

It’s awful. This wall under the window was puckering and bubbling so I pecked at it and what did I find? The last person who painted this room painted over wallpaper. And not that that would be all that bad, except that wall was moist with condensation and the wallpaper bubbled. It just peeled off for me… well, what you see there did.  Now I have to decide on whether I want to work at getting all the wallpaper and paint off all four walls, or just patch it as best I can and paint and be done with it. Or maybe in summer I’ll have a few dollars where I can hire someone to come and do it all right.

Ugh.  We’ll have to see. With all the moisture on the walls I can’t paint anyway. So I gave up after pulling the icky painted wallpaper off as best I could.  So now I just have to wait. And see how my husband and I job situation is in the next few months. I would so love to have someone come in and do it right. I wonder how much it would cost. It’s a mess!
