Celebrating with Food

I find it interesting that us humans celebrate with food. We reward ourselves with food when something good happens. We comfort ourselves with food when something bad happens. I could so easily be 500 pounds. I love food. I love the feel of it in my mouth. The tastes and flavors can be so intense that really I do think it’s a kind of drug. And different food can make us feel, physically, different ways too.

Last night we went to the Melting Pot for our team’s Christmas Dinner. We pay for it ourselves, working for the State means we don’t get many things given to us. We are lucky to get four hours of administrative leave from the Governor. That’s about all we get. No bonus, nothing else. Anyway, I digress…

As I was eating all that yummy cheese fondue appetizer and the chocolate fondue dessert, I knew I was abusing my poor body. I also had two grasshoppers (the new bartender didn’t know how to make them, welcome to Utah) a White Russian, a Kahlua and Cream and a dessert drink called a Chocolate Martini that was to die for.

Today my body feels amazingly good. I am fortunate to have a fairly healthy body, though lately I’ve been feeling awful off and on. This morning I feel pretty good. And today I’ll be sticking with my fruit and soy smoothie and salads all day, to detox some and clean out my body. I joined Weight Watchers and it is helping a lot. But Christmas is hard because of all the celebrating with food. If I can just maintain over the holidays then drop after, I’ll be happy. I am now at 157lbs, and I want to get down to 147 again. That was a great weight for me.

Weight Watchers is nice because instead of eating mostly vegetables like on Eat To Live, I can even eat movie popcorn sometimes and as long as it’s within my daily points, I’m good!

Friday Feast Meme

Okay I haven’t done this Meme before but it looks like fun so here goes…

Appetizer
What was the last game you purchased?

Oh my.. game, last game I purchased, or my husband? He loves computer games, MMORPG and buys them a lot. Personally, I think the last game I purchased was Monopoly so we could bring it camping. I don’t think I remember the last computer game I purchased, though I did used to play Everquest.

Soup
Name something in which you don’t believe.

This is a hard one because I believe everything is possible. Though truthfully, I don’t believe in Christianity. I do believe in a higher power or powers, but not a Christian God.

Salad
If you could choose a celebrity to be your boss, who would you pick?

Well then.. hrm… I am not really into celebrities, but I’d love to have a vampire boss, how about Mick St. John? Or even his real life counterpart, Alex O’Laughlin. Then I’d have something nice to look at every day at work. ;)

Main Course
What was a lesson you had to learn the hard way?

To be my own person and have a self. I didn’t used to, now I do, and I love it.

Dessert
Describe your idea of the perfect relaxation room.

Does it have to be a room? I would take a tropical island first of all. Or, since it’s winter, a room with a Christmas Tree, fire in the fireplace, a bit comfy couch and five dogs all snuggled up against me. Hot cocoa, warm PJs, and my husband by my side.

Thanksgiving Mode

I’m already in Thanksgiving Mode… I want to be off! But I work the rest of today and then I work for a few hours tomorrow. I need to see how many, since I went to the Dentist on Monday and worked the rest of the day. Our Maid Service also comes tomorrow, which is good, and I need to straighten up! They haven’t called yet, I wonder if they will come AM or PM.

I will be at my Mom and Dad’s Thanksgiving day. My Mom is, however, in Germany. So it’ll just be us and we are doing pot luck. I’ll bring sweet potatoes and cauliflower and maybe some yummy potatoes. I won’t be wearing any equestrian riding apparel, hehe, I’d have to wear that at Halloween since I don’t ride. Though I do love to ride.

Oatmeal Stout

Filed Under (Daily Posts) by User ImageCynthia [More Me!] on 15-11-2007

I have a rotten time remembering what kind of beer I like. I got a brief beer lesson today at lunch… hops make the beer more bitter… so a hoppy beer is probably a bitter beer. I don’t really like my beer too bitter, but a little isn’t bad.

So we went to Red Rock for lunch today and I had their Oatmeal Stout. It was so yummy, I had two! And I could feel it going back to work. Not enough to hurt my work, of course. And it’s so nice to be able to work at a job where I can do that. Of course I’m careful, but I can hold my beer just fine thank you!

He he okay sometimes not. But today I did just a fine job and am doing well. It’s even worn off already. I just wonder… okay I don’t want to know, how many calories each of them had. I ate a salad for the meal, though! My weight was 158.2 this morning, so it is, slowly, going down.

Weight

Well, I am attempting to get my weight back down. This morning, before showering or eating anything, and naked, I weighed 158.4 pounds. Ack! My low is 147 and I really want to get back down around there. My pants are getting too tight again and I can jut feel it.

So… vegetables vegetables vegetables for food. My main food item. Low calories, high nutritional value, and I will eat enough to fill me up. I made a good soup the other day which is quite yummy.

I might join Weight Watchers once they get their 7 day free trial going again in the next couple of months but we shall see. My sister looks so good, and has been following them for a couple years now. And sometimes I just need the structure.

And after I drop some more pounds I’ll buy myself some flowers… not quite wedding flowers, but those are pretty too!

Veggies are Good for you

Filed Under (Opportunities) by User ImageCynthia [More Me!] on 19-07-2007

I’m a vegetarian, and so I eat a lot of vegetables. But to tell you the truth, I’m tired of vegetables. I like pasta and bread and popcorn, too, but I try to stay away from them.

There’s a new product out and I can get My Daily Veggies Free Sample to test it out. This looks like an interesting way to incorporate veggies into my diet without having to eat so many of the darn things. Veggies are packed with vitamins and minerals and are very healthy. Not only that, they are usually low calorie so you can eat a lot of them and fill up, without getting all those unwanted calories.

Vegetarians are not necessarily healthy. Most desserts are vegetarian. I try to stay healthy, even while I’m camping, and this product can even be taken with camping to make eating veggies easy (I eat too much junk camping). I am actually quite healthy, but sometimes I do slip. I can incorporate My Daily Veggies into recipes I already make, to make healthier meals. And it’s made from whole vegetables, not just parts or concentrates. So check out the free sample!

Eggplant and a Clean Room

Filed Under (Anxiety, Daily Posts) by User ImageCynthia [More Me!] on 07-07-2007

Clean RoomOkay, I’m a slob. I’ve admitted it before, I’ll admit it again. Not only that, but I am awful at organizing. This, too, is because when I try I get too anxious. Instead of doing things slowly, and thinking them out, I rush through and toss things willy-nilly all over the place. Probably the perfectionist in me again. We have a spare bedroom, and usually it’s where I put things I don’t know what else to do with them. When I clean out the room, I find old mail that I have no idea what I was thinking when I saved it. I should have just thrown it all out. I find old papers, messy books, dog toys and leashes… among other things.

Clean RoomAnyway, the Husband and I cleaned it out today. I took down my computer that was in there, and the table it was on. The only thing I used that computer for was to power my web cam. We are going to set up the very old laptop to do that instead. So now, it really is a spare bedroom! And we can have people stay in it when they come up for trials. I think this fall when the dog things stop happening so much, I’m going to paint it, too. The paint in that room has always been chipping off ever since we bought this house back in December of 1999. Wow, I can’t believe it’s been that long already. So it needs a good makeover. I want to rip up the carpet, too, but my husband doesn’t want to have to finish the hardwood floors, so the carpet stays down.

Eggplant Garden I need to buy some sheets for that room for the bed. And I think I’m going to find the biggest dresser I can, too, that will fit. Our house is so small (1300 sq feet) and has almost no closet room.

So this, check it out, is our eggplant! My husband is such a good gardener. Not only did he plant peas, he also planted two tomato plants, and three eggplants. This eggplant picture is kinda blurry, but you can see the thin purple fruit hanging from the leaves. We already ate one a few days ago. They are small, but they are delicious. Much better than store bought. We fry them up in a little butter (evil fatty butter) and eat them. We even tried them raw and they were not half bad. Though they were better cooked. We have been munching on peas all summer, they are really sweet, and really good. And hopefully we’ll get tomatoes soon. And the eggplant… I love garden vegetables!

Gotta Eat Better

Filed Under (Daily Posts) by User ImageCynthia [More Me!] on 06-07-2007

I really have to eat better. Let’s see.. what did I eat today. I had coffee in the morning (decaf) two cups. I had a banana before I left to work. I had a bowl of oatmeal with a little brown sugar in it at about 9:30ish. I had a salad for lunch, then some grapes for a snack, then some edamame to snack on. I just want to snack so stinking much in the afternoon and evenings. I also ate two apples at work and another banana for snacks.

Got home and that’s when it gets bad. I had leftover pasta salad that my Mom made. My husband didn’t end up wanting it… it was yummy. So I ate that, then I ate.. errr, hrm. Now I forget. I know I had some chocolate chips and some dried mango. Both of which I like. And some soda. Now, it’s almost 10pm, and I’m not hungry and I don’t feel like eating. I just get the most awful cravings for sweets and chocolates lately!

I’m thinking of signing up for a weight loss program. Gonna have to research them, though. I really am tired of cooking, so not having to cook for a while would be great.

And I know the older I get, the more I have to watch my health. Well, that’s not really true. Everyone, even young kids, should watch what they eat. It’s best to stay healthy. but if we really need it, we can get some disposable underwear to help us through the hard parts of life.

My Body is Happy

Filed Under (Daily Posts) by User ImageCynthia [More Me!] on 11-06-2007

I finally cooked today. Made a zucchini no-pasta lasagna. It’s very healthy. The recipe is from my sister. She’s always giving me great recipes to try from her Weight Watcher info. And I appreciate it all!

And now, as I sit here and eat this… my body is thanking me for it. I can tell. I feel better. I’ve been eating less-than-healthy things for a few weeks now, time to get back into healthier meals.

When I go to Idaho this weekend I won’t have much healthy to eat, will mostly be restaurants. But when I get back I will eat healthy again. It does feel better.

Cooking the Food

Filed Under (Daily Posts, Opportunities) by User ImageCynthia [More Me!] on 08-06-2007

Didn’t I just say I am tired of food? Yes yes, I think I did, and perhaps I am repeating myself. But I thought I’d come on again and say that sometimes when I get something new, it inspires me to do something with that new thing.

And so shopping helps me to get more inspiration. LOL. So why not look for new cookware? I don’t know why not. My husband doesn’t know why I don’t. I really get tired of the old, worn out pots and pans we have, and new ones would be nice.

Anyway, I really need a new recipe, too. Usually I look for vegan or vegetarian food that makes a ton at once, so I don’t have to cook much. I’ve had an eggplant lasagna, with no pasta, that I enjoy but I’m kinda tired of. And my sister (she is great!) gives me the best recipes, including some bran/brownie mix muffins, and some zucchini no pasta lasagna.

But I’m kinda tired of both. So I need some mostly vegetable casserole something to make. *sigh* I guess if I actually looked, I might find something.
