I Support Obama

Can’t get more of a statement out of a blog post than that…! Well, it’s where I stand. I’ve been hitting many blogs, lately, by republicans… or just those who support McCain and not Obama. And by the image on my sidebar that says I support him, and by this post, I want to say that I’m a Democrat all the way, and I am really liking Obama a lot.

Some say he is too young… well, Kennedy was young. And Kennedy was a Democrat. Even though I was too young (okay I wasn’t born yet) when he was president, still I like his image and I like what he did. I think Barack Obama will be similar.

Obama is fresh and has new ideas. I don’t care about experience… especially POW experience. How would that make for a good president? I don’t know. I want someone without experience who will come in and make some drastic changes.

Change the health care system. Get rid of all discrimination including sexual orientation (not that he supports that, but Democrats usually do so more than republicans). We need someone who is pro-choice for all us women who want control of our lives. And we want a president who is much, much more environmentally responsible!

I cannot go into details mainly because, like other things in life, I don’t remember details. I hear something I like, I absorb into into my mind and heart, and I decide I like it. And that’s how I feel about Obama. And I don’t post much about politics because I’m afraid of getting the facts wrong. But then, I’ll probably be corrected, eh? LOL.

I do not think off shore drilling is any kind of solution to the gas prices being so high. Any sensible person (lol how’s that for a slam?) can see that opening offshore drilling wouldn’t help our gas prices for years to come, maybe five or ten years, and we really would love to have some relief now!

I want to find and listen to Al Gore’s speech today… I heard that he has a goal of having all our electricity powered by renewable energy sources in 10 years? I heard that on NPR. Gotta go find that speech. I like Al Gore. I voted for Al Gore. I wish Al Gore would have won in 2000.

If McCain wins, like it’s been said, we’ll be having Bush’s third term starting off. Personally, I’ll be on the edge of my seat come November, probably even staying up late, to see who wins. Here in Utah usually the republican wins, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to be out there stamping my Democratic Vote on election day! (Or before, since I usually vote through the mail lol).

So anyway… that’s my 2cents!

Sustainable Democracy

This is a site I found cruising around the web today… I found it through Entrecard… see, another benefit to Entrecard, I am finding very interesting sites.

It’s called Sustainable Democracy. And it caught my eye… mainly because I’m a democrat, though democracy does not mean democrat (something I had to grasp when I was older than a kid…)

I am continually frustrated (as I have blogged about in the past) by the tediousness of going to work every darn day and… as Joe said in Joe vs. The Volcano “I was too afraid to live my life so I sold it to you for $300 lousy dollars a week.” Okay that’s not a direct quote, that’s from memory, but it’s close. So the author of Sustainable Democracy says, on his http://www.sustainabledemocracy.org/founder page:

Society, school, government, everyone had promised me that the purpose of all this education and working was to make things better. But the more I went through life the more it became apparent that it was about filling up life with objects and busy work, and not with making things better.

Emphasis Mine. His words strike a chord in me. I mean… I’m frustrated with selling my life for (a bit more than) $300 a week. But still, I’d rather be out there learning, growing, bettering humanity… and sure sure, I could pull myself up by my bootstraps and try to do that. But my anxiety, and the system, and my job… my wanting to eat and have a roof over my head and my dogs’ and husband’s head, rather prevents me from stepping out of my comfort zone and running headlong into the wind.

On his Mission page, he writes:

We have spent centuries working to achieve better technology, philosophy, and social structures to make our lives better. We should begin bringing that effort to bear and create the society that renews and rejuvenates us, not perpetuate the one that sucks us dry until we are of no great use to it.

“Suck us dry” is right. Ugh.

So why can’t we have a society where we are all alive… and doing things we love? Instead of slaving away at a desk 40 hours a week. 40 Hours A Week! It’d rediculous! Maybe there can be something else… something better. Some type of society where we follow our passions, improve humanity and the earth, live sustainably and lovingly… where we don’t have to do mindless (even if not mindless, still tedious) tasks day in and day out to survive?

Sure sure, all through the ages humans have had to work hard to get that food and shelter and dog food… but still… Health Care, good quality solid Health Care, should be available to everyone in our society. No questions. And so, shouldn’t the ability to live life to it’s fullest? In ways we do not yet imagine?

He has three posts, this is the first, to “help introduce and explain the basic ideas and tenets of Sustainable Democracy“. I have started reading these posts, and I am going to go read some more.

Another great quote that speaks for itself:

It should not be the effort of any society to produce more. It should be the focused effort of every individual to innovate in their area of expertise to produce the least quantity needed at the minimal effort required to produce the best results.

Okay, blow my mind, why doncha. I wish I would have thought of this stuff.

Utah Democratic 2008 Primary Elections

My goodness. The Utah Democratic party websites are awful! They mention not a word of where/when/how/why about the 2008 Primaries. I spent a ton of time searching around the websites, even non-democratic.. heck, I just wanted to be able to vote in the primaries!

My friend said that Utah Democratic Primary Elections is an oxymoron here in Utah. Well… perhaps. Utah always goes republican. And you know if Mitt Romney wins the republican vote, he’s who Utah will vote for.

For the most part I sit and watch while the rest of the country makes, hopefully, a decent decision on president. The last couple of elections I’ve been embarrassed that our country has chosen George W. Bush. I don’t like him, want him gone, want him OUT of office and I have for 7 years now.

Anyway, I finally found the website that’ll tell you, here in Utah for 2008 and other years too, what the location of the next election will be for you:

Salt Lake County Elections. Of course this is just Salt Lake County. I am in Salt Lake County so sorry if you are not, but maybe it’ll give you a starting point. On this page you can put in your address and it’ll tell you about the next election. Since the next one is the primary in Utah, it is the one that comes up.

However, I also signed up for the Vote by Mail option. So hopefully they’ll send me a ballot in the mail for the primaries. But I don’t know if they will, or if it’s only for the main elections. Now I gotta find out an answer to that question. hrmph.

So I’ll put in my little tiny liberal voice from under the barrel of the Utah conservatives. But hey, I try!

Democratic Majority!

Yay! The House has a Democratic majority again! I’m so excited. Woo hoo. I found this article on Consortium News that describes it quite well: Consortium News Article.

I have to include some of their quotes:

In essence, the voters asserted themselves as the final check and balance in the U.S. political system, giving the Democrats control of the House of Representatives and putting them within reach of a Senate majority as well.

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

And this…

The outcome sets the stage for a potentially historic fight over America’s constitutional system. Bush has vowed never to give an inch on the Iraq War and Vice President Dick Cheney promised that Bush’s “war on terror” policies will continue “full steam ahead” whatever the voters want.

That’s a democracy for ya… great, Cheney wants to do what Cheney wants regardless of the voters.

I’m actually proud of the country. FINALLY! I was so disappointed 2 years ago when Bush was re-elected. Wondering why on earth the humans of the USA would vote that idiot back in again. He’s a bully and his policies are horrible. There was NO REASON to go in and invade Iraq. Sure, Hussain was an awful person and probably should not have been in power, but the USA has no right to go trying to push our way of life on the rest of the world. Absolutely none. Weapons of Mass Destruction my ass.

Finally he’s been told in No Uncertain Terms that the Country is tired of him and his party, and changes are coming. I can’t wait for two more years, to see what happens. I read that there are some good Democratic candidates out there, hopefully one of them will win the presendency! (Probably not here in Utah but I put in my vote anyway!)

This has been a long week. I’m having PMS time again… which is never fun. The Agnus Castus keeps it in check, but still I’m not my normal self. I eagerly await the weekend when it should be over.

Also, I have a mamogram today. I know I know, I shouldn’t be doing it now, the worst time of the month, I’m all tender and sore… but I wanted to get it done. Actually, I have to call and make sure I have the date right. Usually I write these things down correctly. :)
Obedience with Levi last night was a lot of fun. He is such a happy boy. His backup is fairly good, we’ll need it for Rally Excellent. But first of course we need to do Rally Advanced. Lucy needs one more leg for her RA then I’ll be doing Levi. Not sure I can do both dogs at the same time, it’s too hard, especially when agility is at the same time too.

Also, I’m so glad that the House has gone back to the Democrats! Yay! And hopefully the Sentate, too. I think that says loads about the current administration. Mainly, the idiot Bush.

Only Seeing What’s on the Popular Media

Reading news articles again… and of course, I just get pissed off. This is a good one about the USA’s looming economic disaster.

Quote from article:

Polls suggest that Americans have only a vague sense of their government’s long-term fiscal prospects. When pollsters ask Americans to name the most important problem facing America today — as a CBS News/New York Times poll of 1,131 Americans did in September — issues such as the war in Iraq, terrorism, jobs and the economy are most frequently mentioned. The deficit doesn’t even crack the top 10.

Because, what is reported on the 6 o’clock news? Exactly those things. The war in Iraq, terrorism, jobs, and the economy. Some local stuff once in a while. Okay, I don’t watch the regular national news all that much, because for one thing it’s rather depressing, and for another, I beleive it’s call canned. Pop open the can and dish out the news. It’s not what’s really going on.

People don’t go out and find out what’s going on. What the truth is, what is happening. It’s the same thing about the treatment of animals and our own personal health. Our world is a complete mess. I want to know what the truth is, so I can do something about it. I refuse to stick my head in the damn sand.

I better go read the rest of the article…

Humans will Need Two Earths

Filed Under (Daily Posts, Politics) by User ImageCynthia Blue [More Me!] on 26-10-2006

There are too many humans in the world.
I’ve been trying to find some decent news that reflects the true state of the world. Free Press, Real News.. yadda yadda. Well, I’ve come to believe that whatever you want to read, it’s out there. So I guess I’m trying to find the real news for me. What I believe is out there. Being a flaming liberal I want liberal news that supports an open mind and what I believe to be the cold, hard truth.

I’ve actually found a couple of them. One that I like is Guerrilla News.

This is an interesting article. I’m linking directly to the source, Humans Could Use Two Earths by MSNBC staff and news service reports.

Humans are using up the earth. I wonder what the collapse of the USA will look like. And yes, I do think the USA will have a political collapse. Not sure when or how, but we are digging ourselves into a financial hole and basically killing the planet. In the apathetic long-term observation of species, I find it interesting to note how humanity has covered the earth and used up so many resources, too many, and how we will evolve economically, socially, and environmentally in the next while. It’s an interesting time to live. Where will the human race go? Will we kill ourselves off? Do many developing species kill themselves off? I wonder if we’ll ever know. I’m curious. There are other species out there on other planets, it’s guaranteed and I have no doubt in my mind about it. I just wonder if they’ve been able to survive.

Personally, I hope the USA doesn’t collapse any time soon. I want my comfy job, I want my comfy house, and the real and only reason is because I want my dogs to be safe. If I didn’t have a job or a place to live, I’d have to still protect my dogs, feed them, house them, etc. I am their guardian. They deserve the best life possible. They are as children and need to be protected as such. And if the USA collapses, many people will revert to taking care of humans, and only humans, and screw the rest of the animals. However, to me, non-human animals have just as much value as human. Especially my dogs. They are as human to me as any other human is.

Wacko Minority

Filed Under (Daily Posts, Politics) by User ImageCynthia Blue [More Me!] on 11-08-2006

Tagged Under :

I told my husband recently that I am a member of the Wacko Minority.

What does this mean, you might ask?

Well it means I disagree with mainstream things. And being a liberal, I also long for change.

However, in a nutshell, I differ from the mainstream by these four main points:

1. I’m a vegetarian
2. I much dislike the mainstream view that PMS is all in my head or can be treated with The Pill.
3. I feed my dogs a raw, species appropriate diet
4. I don’t want my dogs to be vaccinated anymore

To expand…

1. I have been vegetarian since … oh gads, 15 years ago. When was that? 1991. I thought 1992 but I’ve been saying 15 years this year so I guess it was 1991. Since then whenever I mention this to people, instantly I have a label stuck on me and I’m put into a group. Oh well. I feel it’s species appropriate for me. But this change, this paradigm shift that basically changed my life back then, opened my mind up to more changes.

2. For years I fought PMS. Not until this year did I find help. Vitex Agnus Castus. Chastetree berry. Good gods it’s a life saver. You can read more about it on my PMS page.

3. July 2006 I started feeding my dogs raw food. Discovering that kibble is just processed junk. I don’t eat processed junk, why would I feed it into my dogs? It can cause cancer and other bad long term problems. Thus… this makes me a wacko minority. So does number 1 (number two is not really wacko minority but it’s definitely alternative medicine).

4. Been reading up on vaccinations. Interesting things out there about them. I still don’t know the entire story. Not sure I ever will. Since I’m like Gilligan and I agree with both the Professor and the Skipper whence listening to arguments (yes, I’ll always be overcoming my codependency issues), it’s hard for me to see which side I want to listen to. But with knowldedge, patience, and information, hopefully I’ll gather what I need to make an informed decision.

The thing I won’t do, refuse to do, is stick my head in the sand. I want knowlege, and I want to know the truth. Granted there are probably many things in my life I haven’t gotten the whole scoop on, but when it comes to my health and the health of my animals, I will find out. Dammit.

Wish the husband would also be healthy, but my ongoing recovery from codependency teaches me to realize him, being human, means he can make his own decision. :)
