Evil Email Catalogs

I know I shouldn’t get it… but I can’t help myself, because they have such great value and such beautiful products, and I really do love to knit!

Check out these Ankle Socks at Knit Picks. I ordered enough yarn for 4 pair plus the pattern. And a set of #2 DPN, that nice colored wood I’ve been wanting. And really, it all was just over $20. Not too bad!

I really want to do some up for Christmas Presents but I doubt they will come in time, and I doubt I’ll be able to get all four pair done. But who knows, I’m getting pretty fast at knitting socks. I’m not going to say what colors I got, but two are solid and two are mutli-colored. I’m excited. I was going to get the 2 day shipping but it was $10 more and that was a little pricey, I think.

Oooo knitting! I am just working on the end of a second sock I want to give to my obedience instructor for Christmas. I should be able to finish those up in a day or two.

I Want Yarn

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

I want more yarn. I want to knit some things for Christmas presents, one in particular. And I know of a place that sells nice, inexpensive yarn… Knit Picks! Oh man, I can go crazy at that site. I love the look of their new needles, and they have a really nice free download of some felted slipper socks that look like a lot of fun to do.

But if I buy something there, I may just buy too much. And I have been spending too much money lately on dog things, and I really have to stop. I have a ball of yarn at home for socks, and I can just make those.

So tell me no, don’t buy any yarn!

Cabled Socks

Cabled Socks Here is a closeup of the cabling on my blue cabled socks. Not sure how well you can see it… If you click on it, you will see the bigger picture with more detail. I really love to cable. It is fun, and I think I’m pretty good at it, too. These socks are too small for me but they will fit my friend at work. She wears a size 5.

And below is a picture of both the socks. One is done, the other I am over half way finished. I’ve done the heel flap and turned the heel, and am working on the gusset decreases. LOL, I still can’t believe I understand all this knitting jargon. Never in a million years did I think that me, tomboy I’ve always been, would knit, but I really do love it! The heel turn is the best part. Who ever came up with that? It’s very cool.

After I finish these socks I will continue to knit my afghan I’m doing for collie rescue. Maybe make some money off of that, I hope so. Probably won’t be too hard to at least get back what I spent on yarn. And maybe a bit more for the collies.

I love this yarn. It’s called Lorna’s Laces and I bought it on ebay. I bought another color too and made some other socks. But I think I like this deep rich blue better.

New Yarn

Monday, September 25th, 2006

I can so understand, now, how people call yarn pictures ‘Yarn Porn’. I can just get lost for hours looking at yarn. On the web mostly, but going to the shops is also fun. Just looking and touching and feeling. But the Internet does have a wider variety than my local yarn store.

I want to make more socks. There are some nice patterns in Sensational Knitted Socks. I got the book from the library yesterday and there are two I really want to knit. :)
So off I went to look at yarns and I settled on these two:

Lorna’s Laces Springer

And

Lorna’s Laces Pond Blue

Aren’t they just gorgeous? I love the springer especially. I hope they are nice yarns. I bought them on ebay. :) Gotta love ebay!

However, I should really not be allowed on ebay when I’m bored. :) Because I spend way too much money!

I also bought some things from Knitpicks, though I bought them yesterday. These Socks look like a lot of fun, too. So I bought the pattern and all the yarn for them. I wonder how many pair of socks I’ll be able to get out of the yarn. :)
I really need to organize my yarn. I am starting to have a whole boat-load of the stuff!

(I’m going to leave comments on this post for a little bit, maybe I won’t get spammed too much.)

Socks

Saturday, April 15th, 2006

I am learning how to knit socks. They are fun.. challenging while at the same time having easier spots. I’m not too crazy about the ribbing, but I like doing the heels, and the gusset decreases.

First Pair of Socks

I’m having a hard time matching when I make a pair, as they are tricky. But I think I need to remember, or write down, where I started the change. At what color. Perhaps that will help me get them to match a little bit better.

Now I want to go buy some sock yarn… and I’m thinking I should get some at www.knitpicks.com. They have really nice yarn there. However, I’m not sure how much to buy, as sometimes their skeins are a little bit smaller. Now where did I put my sock yarn label, to see how much I bought at the LYS…

First Scarf

Thursday, October 13th, 2005

The first of my scarves is done. This is a template scarf, for Lucy. Lucy is a Slitheryn. She is cunning and it just fits her! :)
Lucy in her Scarf

I plan on gathering some herbs for the scarves, to see how that goes too. And I’ve ordered all the colors. However, the yellow is severely backordered, so no Gryffindor or Hufflepuff for a while. Ugh. Only Ravenclaw and Slitheryn.

What I’ll Need

Friday, October 7th, 2005

So this is what I’ll need, if I call or email a place to see what they have in stock, for Encore DK:

sienna (#0999)
sunny (#1382)
hunter (#0204)
grey (#0194)
navy (#0848)
black (#0217)

Edit:
And okay, I made an order. One of each skein. The cool thing is, this place lists color 1014, butternut, as a DK color. Now I haven’t seen 1014 any other place. And it’s $2.88 per skien. And, they will check their stock and notify me of the total price, and then I can pay through paypal. We’ll see how it goes. I haven’t paid anything yet, which is really nice.
The place:

This looks like a nice yarn.. all acrylic. Hrm.
Lane Borgosesia Caprice
Hrmm.. that is a plymouth yarn:
Lane Cervinia Caprice. I don’t know why the name is different.

HP Scarf Colors

Friday, October 7th, 2005

Okay, I need to remember what colors to use for HP Scarves, and I always forget and have to go look them up. As based on the atypically.net pattern.

I prefer to use Encore. For a full-length people scarf, I’ll use worsted weight. But for the mini dog scarves, I think I’ll prefer DK. Though I haven’t been able to actually knit one in DK yet, because no one has the darn colors I want! Ugh. So here’ I’ll post the colors I want, as well as the places that sell them.

Patternworks sucked. They sent me a skein of sienna DK, but the yellow was backordered. They didn’t, however, tell me that when I originally asked them about the ship date. Made me quite mad.

Anyhoo, the colors are as follows.

WORSTED:
Gryffindor - burnt sienna (#0999) and butternut (#1014)
Slytherin - hunter (#0204) and grey frost (#0194)
Film Ravenclaw - navy (#0848) and grey frost (#0194)
Hufflepuff - black (#0217) and butternut (#1014)

DK:
Gryffindor - sienna (#0999) and sunny (#1382)
Slytherin - hunter (#0204) and grey (#0194)
Film Ravenclaw - navy (#0848) and grey (#0194)
Hufflepuff - black (#0217) and sunny (#1382)

I have NOT seen the sunny in person, local yarn store didn’t have it, and patterworks.com had it backordered. I hope it looks good. The DK does not seem to come in butternut, the only yellow is sunny. The orange looks too orange.

Patternworks does have decent color cards though:
Encore Worsted
