First Long Drive in the Minivan

Van and Trailer2Well I’m back from St. George, Utah, and flyball with my dog Chase. Muffit and Tatum came along for the ride too. It was fun. I pulled the trailer down on my own… the first time I ever took it on my own. I was scared and nervous until about half way home today. Then my nerves finally settled and I was fine.

I also had a passenger, a 14 year old girl who is a member of our flyball team, and her border collie. It went well though I was nervous about what we’d talk about and I’m always a bit shy as I don’t know her too well. But she’s super nice and it was fun. And I was nervous about the van and the trailer and getting there okay, but it went just fine. The van pulled the trailer nicely I will admit. Better than my old Outback did. My drive home was by myself, and it the weather was nice and the traffic was good.

So when I go to more dog shows next summer, or Vegas vacations, I can take the trailer myself. Now, though, I’m just glad to be home and I’m rather glad to be done with traveling for dogs sports for the year. The next trip is the cruise, end of October. For a while, i get to have some weekends off and to rest!

Camping at Topaz Mountain

Me Camping Well we are back! And I won’t be leaving town again for… oh, about two weeks. LOL. Until I go to Colorado again for agility with Chase. It will be fun.

These are a couple of pictures from camp. It was a lot of fun, but it was too windy, and too cold. Last night actually froze. My sister’s contacts froze in their case! And we ran out of propane and a few of the dogs were shivering in the trailer. Ugh. We tried to cover them up in blankets to keep them warm. My husband finally got up and started the car because it was just too cold. It got down to about 20 degrees.. maybe 17. It was just too cold last night.

Antelope So we have to make sure, next time, that we don’t run out of propane anymore! But going to Topaz Mountain might just be too cold in April, anyway. The spring is so hard for me to go camping because it’s agility season, and so I don’t have many weekends free. But I do love camping. I think the winds were up to 30 or 40 mph, which was awful. And cold. But this morning when we left, of course, it was up to 50 degrees, sunny, no wind, and would have been nice to stay. And on the way out we saw these Antelope. And they stayed still long enough for a couple of pictures. :)

We had a safe trip, didn’t need any travel health insurance, thank goodness. And the car came back with no dents! :)

Glad to be home

It is so nice to be home! I am very tired, and so are the boys. They had fun, though. I’ll post more about them on Tip Tail. As for me, I didn’t have much anxiety on the trip. Some at the start but then better as the week went along. Lake Tahoe is gorgeous and going to the beach every day is just amazing.

I didn’t do any fishing or need any fishing tackle, but there were a lot of boats out on the lake. Lots of people water skiing. Levi often thought he needed to bark at the boats.

We went on some hikes, ate a lot of good food, and tried to relax. Now I’m home to a house full of collies. I just love these collies. I’ll post more about them on my Collie Rescue blog.

I Miss Camping

Popup Trailer Sigh… I miss camping. I’ve been doing so many dog things this summer that we haven’t been camping once. This is our popup trailer, isn’t it cute? It’s small, only 8 feet, but the Outback pulls it nicely and it really is cozy in there, especially with the heater.

I hope we can to up to the Uintah Mountains in August with the trailer. And get a break from the heat, too, even though I do love the heat. If you click on the thumbnail you can see a bigger picture. This was from last year, August 2006. I need more pictures from this year!

Day after camping is just too hard. LOL. I should take the day off. I’m half asleep today and not much worth at all. And I can’t speak, either.

The dogs had a great time camping. Chase and Lucy’s feet all got tender from the rocks and dirt I think, but they are doing okay. Levi was fine, but we practice agility on gravel every week. I think that makes his feet tougher.

I have 9 minutes left of work, and then I’m going to get my car washed because it’s nasty dirty. Then I’m going to go home, and take a nap, before dinner and bed. =D

I got a pack-a-pup tent for Levi for traveling to shows. Look how cute all three collies are in there! (Levi still doesn’t like Chase enough to pack into the tent with him.)

Tomorrow we are going camping to Topaz Mountain again. Pics will be forthcoming I am sure. :) I hope it doesn’t rain… too much. But it’ll be down in the desert so hopefully it will be dry and fairly warm. Good thing we have the heater in the trailer. I love that trailer.

I went back in to the doctor yesterday ’cause I am still feeling nasty. I hate being sick, I want to go running soon and I just have had zero energy. He gave me some new antibiotics, Biaxin, which are supposedly a broad range antiB for general nose/throat/ear ailments. I hope it works. I might even feel better today but I’m not sure I can tell after only 2 pills. (one pill twice a day; I’ve always wondered how you can take the same one pill twice a day, unless you tie a string to it and pull it back up to take it again.)

I took Chase to agility class on Wednesday night and after being in the crate for an hour he was very, very stressed. Poor guy. He will get better, I think I’m going to take him every week so he gets used to it more. He is terribly under socialized so I want to bring him out of his shell as much as possible, but I don’t want to push him too hard at the same time.

Levi did really good in class. He is such a sweetheart. And Lucy’s obedience practice is coming along really well, I think. I’m working on my footwork, pacing faster, and keeping her attention. She is so smart!
