Sleep Apnea, Allergies, or Just Nuts?

I hate going back to the doctor again and again. A friend of mine at work today was telling me about his coughing problem and how he has tried numerous different remedies throughout his life and how he’s found what helps him and what doesn’t. He looks at ingredients in the OTC meds and tries them and if they don’t work he tries a higher dose or something else. What an excellent scientific method that is!
Me…? Well, I tend to try one thing and if it doesn’t work I throw up my hands and give up! And going to the doctor and saying ‘that didn’t work’ just makes me feel like a pest, a hypochondriac, or worse (though I’m not sure how to describe worse).
I wish I could find a natural remedy.. but even then, maybe I actually need to do something instead of fret about it. Maybe some Blackberry plants would help.. I do love blackberries!
Last night I swear I woke up a number of times because I couldn’t breathe. For a long time now my nose has been stuffed and I end up breathing through my mouth at night. But I hate that.. and my mouth naturally closes, then when I breathe through my nose I think I don’t get enough oxygen and I wake up. Is that a sign of sleep apnea? (Clara suggested I might have it.) I’m not sure, I’ll have to look it up. But then I think, doesn’t everyone and their dog go into the doctor wanting to be tested for this new-fangled thing they have heard in the news… currently sleep apnea? Hrmph. I guess I concern myself way too much by what others think (lol I was just talking to Marie about this the other day! I still suffer from this!).
So that’s my dilemma. PMS is starting for me too (it’s day 20 today), which makes me over react to just about everything, and feel shame and humiliation at the slightest things. Yeah.. even on meds (Zoloft), but I feel much better than I did pre-med!
Hrm.. well, those are my thoughts for today. I hated feeling like I woke up a dozen times last night because I couldn’t breathe. And I was so tired this morning (which isn’t unusual). And I guess I really should do something about it.
On this day..

These are indications of sleep apnea. Get screened for it. I waited too long and ruined my health.
No, the media is not onto something new. Sleep apnea has been killing our friends and relatives all along. Their death certificates always listed cause of death as heart attack or stroke or complications from type 2 diabetes. The medical profession has really missed this serious health problem.
All our doctors know is pharmeceuticals and surgery. Sleep apnea is typically not treated with pharmeceuticals or surgery. So the docs were ignorant of it. I even know two doctors who themselves suffered with sleep apnea for years without knowing what was wrong. Now they found out, are getting cpap treatment and are screening and finding dozens of their patients have had it for years.
Ya know . . .it might be dog hair, fuzz, stuff like that in the air. When we had Mouse and Peckerwood I was like that as well. Could not breath, could not sleep (the cat WAS on my head!) and all round I just could not take a good breath. Good luck to you; I say go see the Doc anyways
XO
I hate to say it buy I think Clara may be right. It sounds like you are not getting into a deep sleep so you are very tired. Good luck with all this.
I also think that it might be sleep apnea but to rule out things clearly, you should visit a doctor. If something is bothering your more than 3 days, then there is no reason not to consult a professional. It’s for your own good and for your peace of mind too.
Sleep apnea is dangerous and may be life-threatening. I would have to agree with Kristensen, don;t leave it to chance and see a professional immediately.
You sound just stuffed up. I have sleep apnea and you would know if you had it. Do you snore super loud? Do you wake up with a sore throat often? Are you tired all the time? these are the biggest indicators of apnea.
I actually had a similar problem. My nose would get stuffed up overnight, each and every night, and I would wake up from not being able to breath.
I went to the doctor, explained my problem and was allergy tested…. apparently I have an allergy to dust mites. I got all hypoallergenic covers, got a humidifier and now all I’ll good.
