Anxiety is an Oval

As I was waking up this morning I was feeling a ton of anxiety. I was trying to listen, breathe and relax, but it was difficult. My legs were twitching and I wasn’t feeling good at all.

So what I did was I tried to isolate my anxiety inside my chest. Separate myself from it. I wanted to see if I could mentally distance myself from it and realize, physically as well as mentally, that my anxiety is not me. I am not my anxiety. It is a separate entity. Almost… it is like a black or olive green cloud that descends on me and takes me over. It is a thing that tries to take me over, but is separate from me. It’s not who I am.

Imagining this helped a great deal. I ended up feeling that my anxiety was a large, white oval shaped saucer inside my chest. It was like a flying saucer space ship, but oval instead of round, bulging a bit at the sides (a flying saucer on it’s side). And it was pure white with a mat finish. Yeah I know, I was still mostly asleep, in that place between sleep and wake.

But it helped a lot. Suddenly I was able to relax more. Calm down more. And just lie there and listen. It was nice. I hope to be able to reach that place more often. Now I have to get to bed, it’s 8:24 and past my bed time (yeah I know, so early, but I get up at 5am and need my nine hours). And hopefully PMS will be going away soon. It’s day 26 today. Only a couple more days, I hope!

I have also found that visualization of my pain/anxiety helps me to distance myself and not let it consume me.

What a great meditation method! I often use a white or light blue-ish bubble to surround me as a protection from anxiety, esp to get to sleep. Medition is an awesome tool, it can help calm you from the panic that anxiety can cause.

I can totally relate to your morning anxiety! I think that you are doing a great thing…by realizing that it is separate from you..something that descends on you…that way, you have control of it!

Good luck and thanks for sharing!
