Pronouncing it Dead

Well, I took the laptop apart again, and jiggled some connections to make sure they would stay, and they all looked good. Then I put it back together… and now it’s back to doing nothing. No lights come on, no power, no charging. Hrmph. And I even got all the screws back in (i’m actually one short lol).

So I’m pronouncing the thing dead. I’m going to go buy a new one. Probably an Acer, with an extended warranty! So for a week or so I’ll be on my desktop. Ugh. I did get it to connect to work, though, so I can work from home.

Taking it apart was a lot of fun, anyway. I did it three times and got pretty good at it. If I played golf, I could take a cart apart, and figure out where all the golf cart parts go. :)

On this day..

I have a laptop that I have to constantly repair the power plug. Wish they made them sturdier.

Hmm interesting, how do you repair it? Do you do it yourself?

Yes, I soldered wires onto the motherboard where the plug originally attached. I then have the wires extending out the back to a new plug which hangs (quite ugly but it works) loose. The wires are now tied to the back of the ventilation grate so that if anything breaks it will be the wire beyond where I have it tied or the solder joint to the plug and not the solder attachment of the wire to the motherboard which is very fragile.

If you played golf we wouldn’t be taking the cart apart.. we’d be playing.

Hi the Barrow-Wight, that is a great idea. I should try it out on mine… though I replaced it already.
