Uncomforable Situations

When I was a kid I learned (this may or may not have been the intention of my parents, but it’s what happened) that you should suffer through any type of situation even if it’s hard. It builds strength and character.
When I went to therapy back in the early 2000s, and to Codependency Anonymous meetings, I learned that this wasn’t true.
Today I left a situation that made me uncomfortable. The flyball team I was on. And I feel really, really good about it. I set a boundary. I took care of myself. Chase, my dog, will be unhappy, but we may find another team. We’ll see. Even if we don’t, we won’t go back to that team. I am not saying they are horrible, I’m saying there just wasn’t a good fit. I will miss a number of the team members, but I will most likely keep in touch with them.
I have learned that if I’m not being treated right, or if people are acting in ways that I do not like, that make me uncomfortable, or just disturb me, I can leave! Wow what a concept. I love it.
I am not running away. I am not chickening out. I am not being a Pansy or a wimp. I am taking care of myself. Which is a wonderful, amazing thing.
And you know what? The team will be a bit less without us. We are valuable, Chase and I. Chase is amazingly talented. So really even though it’s a bit of a loss for us, it’s more of a loss for them. And that’s not a brag, that’s a fact.
Lookit me, being all confident. LOL. Such a change from even five years ago!
