DVD+RW
Yeah Yeah I know, I should look into the technology before I buy it.
But alas, I bought the DVD CamCorder, and now I’m trying to understand what types of minidisc DVDs are the best to buy.
I’m drawn to Wikipedia, which is a great site I always forget about. And I’ve seen different types of DVDs listed…
DVD+RW media can thus be treated like a large floppy disk, in contrast to DVD-RW which must be erased before re-writing can take place.
Ah ha! Good thing to know. So I would prefer to have a DVD+RW, so I can record and delete at will. And, what luck do I have! That is what I bought when I bought the camera. So that’s a good thing. The minidisc I am looking at as I write this is a Sony, DVD+RW 1.4GB Which, at high quality in my camera, records about 20 minutes of video.
20 minutes is not much. Wikipedia also says:
which hold up to about 4.7GB per disc (interpreted as approximately 4.7 × 109 bytes; actually 2295104 sectors of 2048 bytes each) and are used for storing films, music or other data.
So, where do I find these 4.7GB minidiscs? I am not sure. I am going to have to look around. Because that would hold a lot more video than the little ones I bought.
There is also this site about understanding Recordable and ReWritable DVD which, while informative, is too hard to read with the too small text. Anyway, I will probably skim over it.
So off I am to finding some bigger minidiscs that will hold more video! If you know of more information sites, or a good place to buy these things, please let me know.

good information. I am looking at getting a in the next few months (expecting our first baby

did a quick google and look around on amazon but found only 1.4 single sided and 2.8 double sided disc.
Wikipedia may have everything but maybe not everything 100% correct.

Yeah wikipedia isn’t always correct, but I like them as a good starting place. I’d like to find a review of the disks to find good quality ones, and haven’t found anything yet. If you find some let me know!
